Picture this: our Food Rescue Truck cruising around town, rescuing 90,000 pounds of perfectly good food every month from grocery stores and local producers.

Pretty cool, right?

But here’s the best part – this whole operation runs on something you probably throw away every week: your empty cans and bottles!

Empties Save the Day

Here’s how it works: Empty cans and bottles can easily be donated directly to the Comox Valley Food Bank at any Return-It Depot. Luckily, we have two of those here in the Comox Valley, one in Courtenay, and one in Comox. Trust us, those nickels and dimes add up fast.

Seriously, every drop of fuel, every oil change, every repair – it all comes from recycled containers. Your empty Coke can today becomes rescued food tomorrow. It’s like magic, but with less rabbits.

The Chain Reaction

When you donate your recycling to the Food Bank, amazing things happen:

  • Food that might hit the landfill gets rescued instead!
  • People in need get access to the fresh, nutritious food they need.
  • We reduce waste twice (recycling + food rescue = environmental win!)
  • Our truck keeps rolling to help more people

Join the Fun!

Are you keen to help power our food rescue mission? Here’s how you can join in the fun!

  1. Save up your unsorted bottles and cans in sealed, clear or transparent bags (up to 90L in size).
  2. Head to any Return-It depot Self Serve Kiosk (We have two in the valley, Courtenay and Comox)
  3. Print out a tag using our account number #250-207-2436
  4. Tag the bag and you’re all done! Your empties just became fuel.

That’s all there is to it!

Remember, when you donate your cans and bottles to the Food Bank account, you’re literally fueling food rescue here in the Comox Valley.
