This summer, we began a quest!

Our supporters continue to show up for this community again and again, and we wanted to give them something special to wear. Something beyond a logo. A signal that they’re part of something amazing happening in this valley.

That’s how the “I Support the Comox Valley Food Bank” Limited Edition Tee came to be. Check out the video below to see how it happened.

The design: Alex Maertz

Alex is an amazing local illustrator based in Cumberland. You can check out her work here. She draws inspiration from nature, and it shows. When she sat down to design this shirt, she wanted it to feel like the valley itself: grounded and local.

“I always draw inspiration from nature. The Comox Valley is full of that, and we’re also full of amazing farmers with food. I wanted to bring it down to its grassroots — having just those elements in the design was really important to me.”

Look closely and you’ll spot her favourite detail: a little row of peas tucked into the design. Cute!

For Alex, this was never just a design job:

“It’s really important for me to work with the Food Bank, because food security is something we really need to focus on, for everyone in the community.”

The print: Moon's Records

Once the design was finished, we headed over to Moon’s Records in Cumberland. Owner Chris Moon and his team hand screen-printed every single shirt in-house, the same way they print their own in-store line.

It’s a good reminder of what “Neighbours Helping Neighbours” actually looks like: an illustrator, a record shop, and a food bank, all teaming up to bring this project to life.

We’re so proud of what we’ve created with our partners! It really feels like every shirt is a little piece of this valley we call home.

If you want to show your love for the Comox Valley Food Bank, you can snag your very own “I Support” shirt here, or by stopping by the food bank during operating hours.

PS – We’d love to see these bad boys out in the wild, so tag @cvfoodbank on Instagram and we’ll repost your image!
