We’re pleased to share an important update. The Comox Valley Food Bank is now officially accredited under the Standards of Excellence program from Food Banks Canada!

This national accreditation recognizes food banks that meet strong standards for how they operate, care for people, handle food safely, and stay accountable to their communities.

This is something we’re very proud of. It reflects years of steady, behind-the-scenes work to make sure we’re serving our community well. The process involved a careful review of our policies, systems, and day-to-day work to ensure we meet national best practices.

What the Standards of Excellence Mean

The Standards of Excellence look at the overall health of how a food bank operates, including:

  • Clear leadership and decision-making
  • Respectful, welcoming service for clients
  • Safe and reliable food handling
  • Responsible financial and administrative practices
  • Accountability to donors, partners, and the community

Reaching this standard took time and teamwork. It reflects the ongoing efforts of our staff, volunteers, and board to do this work with care and intention.

Why This Matters for Our Community

As more neighbours across the Comox Valley need support, this accreditation helps reassure our community that:

    • Donations are used carefully and responsibly
    • People accessing the food bank are treated with dignity and respect
    • Services are consistent and meet national standards

To sum it up, it means you can feel confident in how we do our work. Whether you’re a client, donor, volunteer, or partner, this recognition reflects our commitment to reliability and care.
